March 2023 Newsletter

There’s some huge news for Australian Go in this newsletter, first and
foremost being the stunning victory by Australia’s own Amy Song in the
amateur section of the *2023 SENKO CUP World GO Women’s Championship*
<https://www.nihonkiin.or.jp/special/senkocup/2023/> in Japan! Amy, who was
selected by the AGA Committee in December to represent Australia in the
tournament (which excluded players from China, Japan, and Korea) faced off
against and defeated players from the USA, Singapore, and Germany to clinch
the title. This is a fabulous achievement – well done Amy! Information
about the tournament can be found in the link above.

The *third volume of the Double Trouble series of Go books*, written by
David Mitchell and James Kaaden, is now available on the AGA website here
<https://australiango.asn.au/aga-books/>. The problems in this volume are
aimed at dan players, but kyu players can certainly benefit by studying the
positions. All the Double Trouble books are available for free, but if you
wish to support the AGA, please consider making a donation via the PayPal
link on the bookshop page.

A reminder that *Younggil’s live lessons* are held every Friday evening
from 7:30 pm eastern time via Zoom. The meeting details are as follows:

(ISGS) held their founding ceremony in February at the Korea Baduk
Association (KBA) in Seoul. The ISGS aims to promote academic research on
Go, activities that help spread and teach Go, host academic research
presentations, publish an academic journal, as well as foster exchange
among research institutes, organisations, and businesses. Australia’s
Silvia Lozeva has been appointed as a Research Director.

That’s all for now. If any of you have any Go related news that you think
should be publicised, please email me with your suggestions.
