2025 Quzhou Lanke International Child Friendly Weiqi Championship

The Australian representatives at the 2025 Quzhou Lanke International Championships were Owen Dai, 5 kyu (10 years),  Leo Chen, 7 kyu (9 years) and William Hu, 10 kyu  (9 years).

This was their first time at a large-scale international tournament so they were a bit nervous. They also faced players much older and much stronger. So it was not surprising they lost some games but they were competitive even so Australia won 1 round vs Quzhou International. That team included 3 International players training in Quzhou with ranks of 4d, 1d and 3k much higher than us.

All 3 children learned useful experience in this game. They played some nice games with high Dan players without fear.

After each round, kids from different countries would sit together to review the games.

Congratulations to Owen, Leo and William – well played.

Special thanks are also due to Xiaotian Dai (David), who was Team Leader for the event. David arranged training for the team ahead of the event and did all the administration and support before and during the event that enabled the Australian Go Association to send the team.
