‘Crafting Life’ display at the Japan Foundation Gallery

Explore Japanese craft from a fresh perspective with The Japan Foundation, Sydney’s exhibition ‘Crafting Life: Stories from the Japanese Studio’. Showcasing three craft practices from different regions of Japan, this exhibition highlights the dynamism and resilience of artisans, who continually innovate to ensure the relevance of their craft practices in contemporary Japan, and beyond.

From ceramic pieces from Karatsu to lacquerware and sashiko needlework pieces, these distinct practices and stories reflect the diverse contexts through which Japanese craft traditions are expressed today.

‘Crafting Life’ will be on display at the Japan Foundation Gallery from April 11 to September 27, 2025. Find out more: https://sydney.jpf.go.jp/craftinglife
