Lunar New Year 2026: Go – China’s Timeless Mind Sport

Ashfield library are holding a “Discover Go” presentation entitled “China’s Timeless Mind Sport” with David Mitchell and Amy Song from the Australian Go Association.

Go is an ancient strategic board game originating in China over 2,500 years ago, known as Weiqi, Igo in Japan, and Baduk in Korea. Played on a 19×19 grid, two players compete to control territory using black and white stones. Despite simple rules, Go possesses immense depth, emphasizing balance, foresight, and adaptability. Deeply rooted in East Asian philosophy and culture, it symbolizes wisdom and harmony. With no element of chance, it is a pure test of skill and intellect. Go enhances critical thinking and remains a global intellectual pursuit through modern platforms, education, and international competition.
